What is Pulmonology & Critical Care?

It is the branch of internal medicine that deals with diseases of the lungs and respiratory system.

What is the respiratory system? Resiparoty system consists of lungs, airways and respiratory muscles. Its role is to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide between the external environment and the blood. Also, it facilitates the oxygenation of blood and maintain the acid-base balance within the body by removing carbon dioxide from the blood.

 

What are the most common pulmonary diseases?

  • Asthma
  • Chronic Obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema)
  • Pneumonia
  • Sleep apnea Sleep Apnea
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis and other interstitial lung diseases(ILD)
  • Smoking related lung diseases

 

What do we provide?

Pulmonary and Critical Care Unit at KHCC provides comprehensive clinical care for all types of pulmonary diseases, on inpatient and outpatient basis. These include respiratory difficulties, lung disease, pulmonary vascular disease, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary embolism, cystic fibrosis, adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), asthma, sleep apnea, sarcoidosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and acute lung injury.

 

Diagnostic Tools provided at KHCC:

  • Laboratory blood test & microbiology lab
  • Spirometry, used for the determination of lung volumes in time
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Chest X-ray
  • Scintigraphy (CT scan)

 

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kingdom Hospital provides specialized state-of-the-art care to adults and children with life-threatening medical and surgical conditions, in a multidisciplinary environment.
The unit treats the most critically ill patients through its specialized team of physicians, registered nurses, respiratory care practitioners and others who provide one-on-one care, close monitoring and support to patients with acute and complicated conditions.
